🌏 About the region

Famous for its beaches and coastal views, the South Coast of New South Wales extends from Bundeena, past Wollongong, Kiama, Bega Valley, Jervis Bay, Batesman Bay and all the way to the border of Victoria.

The NSW South Coast includes Bega Valley shire, Eurobodalla shire, and the City of Shoalhaven and is a popular weekend getaway destination for many Sydneysiders.

Aboriginal people of the South Coast come from a number of different groups but they commonly refer to themselves as Yuin.

Yuin ancestors occupied, used, and enjoyed areas from Cape Howe to the Shoalhaven River and inland to the Great Dividing Range.

From 2016 Census data, there were 69,531 people in the region with a median age of 49 years of age.

The most common ancestry in NSW South Coast were Australians (31.6%), English (31.5%), Irish (8.6%) and Scottish (7.5%).

Almost 80% of all people in the area were born in Australia (compared to 65.5% in New South Wales).

The most occupations included technicians and trades workers (17.6%), professionals (15.8%), and community and personal service workers (14.2%) with the biggest component of the South Coast workforce employed in Defence (4.2%), supermarket and grocery stores (3.8%), aged care residential services (3.7%) and in hospitality (2.9%).

πŸ€™πŸ½ NSW South Coast wedding vendors you should consider

It literally takes a village to put together a wedding. To help you on your way, here are some fantastic wedding professionals who are either based in the South Coast or service the region at no additional cost.

Without a civil marriage celebrant, it’s not really a wedding is it?

Cake makers

Designing and making your wedding cake is just part of what a wedding cake maker does. Delivering it safely and ensuring that it looks perfect is an important factor to remember.

External caterers

Many DIY/BYO wedding venues in the Illawarra region do not come with onsite catering (or even a kitchen). While stunning acres of land and privacy, you will need to supply you hungry wedding guests with food!

Floral Stylists

These are the people who make a wedding beautiful. They source florals in the wee early hours of the morning and turn them into magical arrangements for your wedding day. And when your party is over, they come back to clean things up.

🌧 Does it rain often along the South Coast?

The South Coast enjoys a nice climate where summers have lots of sunshine and winters are mild. This makes this long stretch of coastal region a fabulous wedding destination throughout the year.

Remember that the South Coast starts from Bundeena and goes all the way to the border of NSW and Victoria. Therefore, weather and climate can vary considerably.

For example, Ulladulla experienced a peak temperature of 39.3 degrees Celsius in January 2020. On average, June is its wettest and coldest month.

At the same time, Batesman Bay (just 50kms south of Ulladulla) experienced more rain in October, November and December.

This goes to show that coastal showers are often sporadic and unpredictable. However, temperatures tend to be consistent across the region.
